Q & A with Artist and Doll Maker Jenny Mustill

Jenny Mustill is an artist and the creative director of Ruby Ruth Dolls.
After graduating with a BA in fine art painting Jenny worked as an assistant for Damien Hirst before focusing on her own business. Established in 2009 Ruby Ruth Dolls is a collection of ornamental creatures with big personalities loved by both adults and children. In 2018 Jenny negotiated a licensing deal with a Chinese company who now mass produce Ruby Ruth Dolls characters and merchandise for the Chinese market.
Jenny is fascinated by psychology especially the inner child concept.

Where do you live: Brighton
Where do you work: Since lock down I’ve been working at home.
How did you get into sewing/making Ruby Ruth Dolls: My mum taught me to sew at a young age. For as long as I can remember I have felt a compulsion to sew, paint, draw and make things. I was introduced to doll making by a friend while I was at art school.
What item of food best describes your personality: Marzipan
Favourite thing to do on a day off: Paint
What Polka’s do you have: Signature Polka and the Two tone. I love the shape of them!
Top recommendation for food in your city: Riddle and Finns for seafood or Cin Cin for delicious Italian food.
Biggest inspiration: My great aunt Ruth
